"The Greatest Wealth...is Health"

This Spring, over 150 Asians and Pacific Islanders engaged in the critical Health Care Reform debates, advocating for Health Equity and Reform that will benefit fairly all of our communities.  The State of Oregon is creating a new Oregon Health Authority (Statesman Journal Article), designed to manage health care for all uninsured Oregonians.  Nationally, the Obama Administration is advocating for innovative, comprehensive Health Care Reform.

Help Improve Asian/Pacific Islander Health, the Heart of our Community

APANO is seeking 10 volunteers who have the passion and time to lead our work around Health Equity and Reform over the next year.  We are establishing a Health Equity and Reform Team (HEART) to provide leadership, policy analysis, and organizing for the Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Oregon.  HEART is envisioned to meet quarterly, and organize monthly through e-news, legislative advocacy, relationship building with policy-makers, and mobilizing our communities for Health Equity and Reform.

To kick-off this next phase of policy advocacy, APANO is hosting an Advanced Health Equity and Policy Training on Wednesday, July 1, from 6:00-9:00 PM.  It will be co-sponsored by the Urban League, Center for Intercultural Organizing, and the TREE Institute for Latino Health.  We have space for 10 API Activists.

The training will provide you with an introduction to:
  • A comprehensive understanding of Health Equity Policy Analysis
  • Multnomah County Report Card on Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities (PDF link)
  • Current Legislation
  • Policy Advocacy Strategies
